Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect Resulting in Death

Columbia, SC -- Mr. Whetstone and Ms. Perkins represented the estate of a resident of a nursing home who was dropped by an attendant who then lied about what happened.  The attendant picked up the elderly patient from the floor, returned her to the bed and then told EMS that the resident had hit her face on the bed rail.  EMS did not use neck precautions and it was subsequently learned that the resident's neck had been broken in the fall.  The nursing home's cover-up resulted in the patient's death. This nursing home wrongful death case was settled pre-suit for $525,000 and the nursing assistant was prosecuted criminally and pled guilty.
