COLONEL THAD L. MYERS 169th Fighter Wing Colonel Thad L. Myers is the Staff Judge Advocate for Air, Joint Forces Headquarters South Carolina Air National Guard (SCANG). As the senior legal officer for the SCANG, he is responsible for providing legal guidance and opinions to senior commanders on matters related to SCANG strategic and operational initiatives. Col Myers entered the Air National Guard as an airman basic after graduating from Air Force basic training in 1986 as an honor graduate. In competition with his active duty counterparts, he further distinguished himself in May of 1986 as an honor graduate of the Integrated Avionics Phase I Course at Lowry Air Force Base, Colorado. He returned to McEntire Air National Guard Station after completion of technical training where as an avionics technician he serviced the unit's F-16 flight control systems. In 1988 he was appointed as a noncommissioned officer and promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Col Myers received his commission through the Air National Guard Academy of Military Science after graduating as a Distinguished Graduate in 1989. He served as the Base Disaster Preparedness and Readiness Officer from 1989 until 1996. In 1990 Col Myers was deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Col Myers served in the 169th Fighter Wing base legal office as Deputy Staff Judge Advocate and Staff Judge Advocate from 1996 until October 2007 when he assumed his duties as the SCANG Staff Judge Advocate. As an additional duty, Col Myers serves as the ANG liaison for the 9th Air Force Team A.
